Principle 05 · Balance
Balance
Balance is how visual weight is distributed across a composition. A layout feels stable when large, dark, or dense elements are countered by enough visual interest elsewhere—even when both sides are not identical.
Different shapes can feel stable without becoming symmetrical.

Why balance works
Larger, darker, and denser elements usually carry more visual weight. Smaller or lighter details contribute less, but they still affect how stable a composition feels.
Good balance distributes that weight intentionally. It does not require symmetry—an uneven arrangement can still feel resolved when each side has enough visual interest.
